Ipamorelin is a synthetic peptide composed of five amino acids (Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH₂), classified as a Growth Hormone Secretagogue (GHS). It was specifically designed to target ghrelin receptors—also known as Growth Hormone Secretagogue Receptors (GHS-R)—located on the pituitary gland, which is responsible for natural growth hormone (hGH) production. By binding to these receptors, Ipamorelin may stimulate the release of hGH.

Overview

Ipamorelin is the first synthetic GHS noted for its high selectivity, with the potential to enhance hGH secretion without significantly affecting other pituitary hormones such as prolactin or adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). Increased hGH levels may support lipolysis and stimulate the production of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), a key mediator of hGH’s anabolic effects. Through this mechanism, Ipamorelin may promote cellular growth, as well as bone and muscle anabolism.
